Rookhope Burn Cottage is a newly renovated cottage located in Rookhope village within the stunning Weardale valley.  Once part of the old miners shops, the cottage has been lovingly restored with modern fixtures and fittings, assuring a comfortable stay in a designated area of outstanding natural beauty.  The old miners shops also known as the ‘Wardlers’ were used to supply and house the lead miners in the late 1800’s to early 1900’s.  Acquired by University of Durham in the 1960’s from the Weardale Lead Company, it was used by the Geology Department in connection with the Rookhope bore hole experiment in 1961 to house and examine core samples (approx 25 tonnes!) including fossils and minerals from all over the world.
Rookhope is a sleepy little village with a small population of around 250 people, just a couple of miles outside of Stanhope.  At the heart of the village is the The Rookhope Inn, a warm and welcoming traditional pub, where you can enjoy a selection of real ales with beers by Green King and Black Sheep.
Situated on the Coast to Coast (C2C) cycle route, Rookhope Burn Cottage provides a welcome break for cyclists, whether for one night of respite from the rigours of the C2C or for a longer break, Rookhope Burn cottage is a fully modernised cottage in a rural idyll. Sitting on the Rookhope Burn, the stream can be heard from the comfort of your living room.
